We all love a good ol’ fashioned romp around on camera. Age, gender and location is irregardless; practically any situation begs for one.
Of course, I am talking about the jump shot, which has become almost as ubiquitous as the selfie on social media.
We badger our beleaguered friends to take ‘just one more’ as we quest for the photo that will crown all jump shots. No doubt in our heads we look effortlessly agile, lean and fit, whilst in reality often resembling a grimacing blamanche in mid-air.
I for one love a jump shot. However, as I have about as much style and grace as a tap dancing rhino, I am the first to admit that I suck at achieving a quality jump. Does this stop me from trying?
Of course not!
Again and again I jump, until I’m out of breath from the exertion and the laughter. Did we get a good photo? Nope.
I often find it is the failed jump shots, rather than the perfectly executed, that bring a smile to my face.
Months later, when I look back at pictures showing another attempt to elevate myself in a beautiful place, I suddenly remember the fun I had trying.
Here is another one of me looking like a wally.
But, much to my satisfaction, I am not alone. Everyone seems to love a hilarious, failed jump shot, and if Instagram is anything to go by, are keen to share these proudly with the world.
So, to rejoice in the bumbling, gangly efforts of my fellow jump shot failers, here is a collection of some of my favourites who nailed it:
There’s Always One
Sitting Down On The J
Getting That Jump Is Harder Than College
Jump Hair Day
Aiming For Jumps, Achieving Bump(ed) Knees
You Gotta Be In It To Win It
The Bigger The Expression, The Higher The Jump
But after all those botched countdowns, we still keep jumping. It doesn’t matter what the outcome is, because we love doing it.
I will leave you with the simplest truth of them all:
Jumping Makes Us Happy. Fact
Happy jumping, everyone!
